Organization Overview:  Growing Gardens’ is a nonprofit whose mission is to enrich the lives of our community through sustainable urban agriculture and empower people to experience a direct and deep connection with plants, the land and each other.

We are seeking a Development and Marketing Director to join our dynamic and engaging team of passionate employees. This is a new position in our 14 year old organization and the Development and Marketing Director will have the opportunity to lead the development and execution of this department.  

Major Job Functions
  • Development and Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director 
  • Plan and Execute Growing Gardens Fundraising Events Responsible for grant writing, foundation relationship development and grant reports 
  • Coordinate and enhance corporate sponsorships and relationships with individual donors with the Executive Director 
  • Represent Growing Gardens at community engagements and outreach events Work with Executive Director to conceive, coordinate and implement a  comprehensive development program, focusing on individual, corporate and foundation support 
  • Plan and implement annual development strategy Work strategically with the Executive Director to build development capacity through major gifts, planned giving, grants, sponsorships, endowments, direct mail and events Oversee Growing Gardens Marketing and manage Board Marketing Committee efforts. 

  Desired Skills & Experience
  • Highly organized and flexible
  • Ability to multitask and meet changing deadlines Must be self directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision 
  • Experience with planned giving and individual donor development preferred 
  • Gardening experience preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop preferred 

  Required Qualifications:
  • Development professional (at least 3 years experience) with a proven track record of successful fundraising experience 
  • Ability to lead and develop infrastructure within an organization 
  • Demonstrated experience writing grants, maintaining relationships with foundations and completing grant reports 
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing fundraising events 
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and manage relationships with current and potential corporate and foundation sponsors and individual donors 
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly, persuasively and accurately Excellent computer skills (latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines     

Employment Details
Interviews start April 15th
Preferred start April 29
All applicants should be willing to spend time with site staff to gain a clear understanding of the position
Salaried position is an average of 40 hours a week (hours do change seasonally and can go up to 45+ hours before events or grant deadlines)
Salary is $40,000- $45,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
