Job description
Craft Butchery, Connecticut's first and only sustainable, whole animal butcher shop, is looking for a new team member to manage our farmers market presence in Fairfield and New Haven counties. We are a fun-loving, hard-working entrepreneurial team seeking someone positive, friendly and outgoing, who is passionate about educating others about the benefits of local, pasture-raised meat.
On market days you will be responsible for product pickup, booth setup, sales and breakdown, so it's important that you are able to work independently and are comfortable with lots of responsibility including handling cash. Some of the supplies you'll need to lift are heavy, so you should be in good physical shape and look forward to a little bit of exercise on the job. Our ideal candidate has a reliable, spacious vehicle (like a station wagon or SUV) to pick up market materials, but we can work around this if you're car-less; the shop is two blocks from the Westport stop on the Metro North New Haven line.
Markets are Wednesday through Sunday, May through October, and you should expect to work about 8 hours each day. Starting pay is $9 per hour plus 5% commission, or 10% when sales are over $500. You will be expected and encouraged to take full ownership of the farmers market revenue stream, including tracking revenue, forecasting future sales, and doing whatever it takes to sell more product!
In your response please include a resume and say what appeals to you about working at farmers markets and mention other agricultural, food-related or sales experiences. What interests you about Craft Butchery in particular? We're looking to bring someone on as soon as possible, but will be flexible about start date for the right candidate. If all goes well, this position will transition into an internal sales, marketing or business development role at the end of the farmers market season.
