Job description
We are looking for one or two apprentices to join us for the duration of the 2013 season from ASAP until around Thanksgiving! Apprenticeship on our farm will involve learning and work on all aspects of field work plus a small amount of office work plus potential delivery and farm stand sales of our Certified Organic produce.
We are a small organic farm growing diversified crops and flowers on about 5 acres of fields. We sell produce through our CSA and also to restaurants and grocery stores. This year we are also going to operate a farm stand! We are a small group of people dedicated to producing local food for expanding local markets and are looking for people with or without experience who are confident they can and want to work hard doing this good work. We work a lot but enjoy our work and if you have a good attitude and the right shoes there's a place for you here.
Apprenticeship is a great way to begin a farming career, learn about farming, change gears in life, or learn on your way towards your own farm. Farming is challenging work that is beyond Full Time and often tedious and repetitive. But our work is also seasonal and varied as we move through our growing season (April - December). The work we do in March is different from May; and June harvests are unlike August harvests. Apprentices will do greenhouse work, plant, fertilize, cultivate, harvest, wash produce, do tractor work, use walk behind tillers, mowers & weedwackers, install and run irrigation, turn over beds, direct seed crops, and also seed cover crops and prepare new fields.
Apprentices are housed on the farm and receive a modest stipend plus vegetables and eggs produced on the farm.
