Start a Farm Dinner Business Transition Lab

  • Date Posted September 30, 2013
  • Location Montrose, CO
  • Category Business / Culinary
  • Job Type Internship/Apprentice
Job Description We are looking for somebody who wants to start a farm-dinner business with us near Montrose, Colorado. We think it will be super successful and here is why:

We work every week with all the local organic growers in the valley and exchange our time (usually about 8 hours a week) for all the food we can eat. So we are already connected with the growers and they want us to start this up to add profits to their farms. There currently are no other farm dinners in the Uncompahgre Valley- AND we are near Telluride, CO. Basically, we have a market of wealthy tourists who travel through our valley all summer long, and with farms viewing the San Juans, we think the business would be very profitable. Do a google image search of Ridgway Colorado, and tell me you wouldn't pay top dollar to eat organic deliciousness with that view.

So, there are several approaches we can take. If you already have experience (and the equipment) to start a farm dinner business, then great: Let's be business partners. We've got the connections and a lot of expertise, you've got the time and experience, and we could make this happen.

But what we REALLY want to do is help a young entrepreneur get this business started. Why? Because we run a school called Transition Lab that is emerging as a global leader in resilience education, and cultivating social entrepreneurs. This month we won MIT's CoLab Contest for the best "Local Solution". Out of 40 entries worldwide, Transition Lab's model won both the judge's and popular award for being the most accessible, viable, and replicable approach for reducing CO2 emissions and building a resilient future.

In 2014, our program is only accepting 7 students because we are going to focus specifically on setting up these kinds of businesses- with one of them being a high end farmdinner gig. To attend our program, we would work out a deal where depending on how much work you were willing to put into the business, we could deduct that from the price of tuition. There's ton's of perks to working with Transition Lab as well, like getting zero-dollar rent, doing what you love, and building a resilient future. So if you have wanted to start a Farm Dinner Business from scratch with a bunch of visionaries, or are ready to take your existing business to the next level, give us a shout.
