Outreach and Communications Intern Seedling Projects

Job Description Dates: June 30, 2014- October 3, 2014 (3 month duration). Start and end dates are flexible.
Location: San Francisco
Compensation: Unpaid Internship with copious edible perks and the opportunity to work with national leaders in the food movement.

Seedling Projects is offering a full-time (40 hrs/week) internship designed for a passionate young person looking to gain experience at the intersection of food, sustainability, education, and event planning. The intern will work closely with the Operations Manager and the Managing Director of the Good Food Merchants Guild, with oversight by Seedling Projects founder Sarah Weiner. The internship will focus on movement building, model creation, event production and community outreach. This internship is a unique opportunity to engage with the community of food producers, chefs and leaders who have shaped the food movement over the last two decades and those who are leading the way to the future. Major projects the intern would focus on include the Good Food Awards, the Good Food Merchants Guild, and the Good Food Roadshow.   

Seedling Projects, as an action arm of the food movement, works with a wide and international community to increase the popular demand for and access to Good Food.  

Founders Sarah Weiner and Dominic Phillips bring a unique set of skills and communities to Seedling Projects. Sarah Weiner was previously the Producer of the Bristol Organic Food Festival, the Coordinator for Alice Waters’ Art.Food.Hope dinners in DC, and the Content Director for Slow Food Nation. Dominic Phillips was the Executive Producer of Slow Food Nation 2008 and is the owner of San Francisco’s premier boutique event planning company, Dominic Phillips Event Marketing.

Good Food Awards: The Good Food Awards were created to celebrate the kind of food we all want to eat: tasty, authentic and responsibly produced. The annual award recognizes the people who produce good food and brings businesses the attention they need to grow and thrive. Winners gain valuable marketing opportunities and participate in an Awards Ceremony hosted by Alice Waters in San Francisco.

Good Food Merchants Guild: The Guild is the first of its kind trade association with the mission to connect, convene and promote craft food and beverage producers who share socially responsible business practices. Since its launch in August of 2012, the Good Food Merchants Guild has received applications from over 150 businesses across the United States. Member benefits include educational resource sharing with partners such as NASFT, Good Eggs, and Buyer’s Best Friend.

Intern Responsibilities Include:
  • Outreach to Good Food Awards Community
  • Tracking Good Food Awards Entry Data
  • Manaing Facebook & Twitter Accounts
  • Assisting in the planning of the 2014 Good Food Roadshow
  • Tracking and updating press materials
  • Assisting with event planning and production
  • General administration
  • Note Taking/Meeting Minutes
  • Managing website updates
  • Additional responsibilities dependent upon experience and interests
Requirements:
  • Strong interest in food from an environmental, social justice and cultural perspective
  • Professional and thorough
  • Excellent computer, written, verbal and organizational skills
  • Self-starter
  • Able to execute responsibilities with minimal direction
  • Flexibility and eagerness to lend a hand wherever it is most needed
  • Ability to handle fast-paced environment
  • InDesign and Photoshop knowledge a plus
