The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, & Markets is seeking a qualified professional to assist in the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies for up to 20 hours per week on a temporary basis.
The scope of responsibilities will include the following:
- Communications strategy: under the direction of the Communications Director, work with Agency divisions to establish communication objectives and strategic plans to meet those goals
- Ag Product Marketing: assist in the development of marketing plans for Vermont specialty crops. Work with producer groups to define communication objectives and strategic plans to meet those goals
- Ag facts: compile and update data that demonstrates the impact of agriculture on our state. The project will include the creation of a standard presentation, fact sheets, and an in-depth summary of Vermont agriculture, including statistics, examples, relevant contact information, and links to related resources.
- Social media: Develop a calendar of social media posts and creating a plan for creating and executing that content
- Agriview: Write editing support for the Agency's monthly newspaper, Agriview. Duties may also include leading an effort to increase Agriview subscribers and advertisers.
- Creation of SOPs: Draft standard operating procedures for communications related activities, to be filed on the Agency shared drive
- Media lists: Maintain a database of local media contacts
- Dairy promotion: support the 2014 dairy promotion plan, including assistance executing marketing activities and dairy impact study. Also responsible for maintaining the VermontDairy.com website.
- The Big E: support in managing the Vermont Building at The Eastern States Exposition
- On-going support for Agency communications: including support for media events, Agency website, press releases, research, writing/editing, events management
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of work experience in public relations, corporate communications, public affairs, journalism, or related fields.
- Excellent writer/editor.
- High level of technological aptitude, including: Microsoft Office (particularly Powerpoint), social media tools, Adobe Creative Suite, digital photo/video.
