Job Description About Us:

Mesey’s love of healthy foods and her true entrepreneurial spirit brought both passions together to create Mesey Ethiopian Vegetarian Foods. With a love for cooking both ethnic and vegan dishes, she became a regular vendor at Withrow, Evergreen Brickworks and Dufferin Grove Farmer’s market in Toronto. Based on the success of her sales she decided to pack her stews in bio-free glass jars and sell to natural food stores so that her products would be more widely available. 

Her specialties of ready-made stew and Injera have become her signature dish. Mesey Ethiopian stews are vegan and gluten-free. The all-natural sauces are made with only specialty herbs, spices, legumes and fresh vegetables. The stews contain no added starch, addiitives, sugar and trans fats. You will enjoy a delicious meal bursting with exotic flavors. 

Over time, her foods and dishes, that are always made with care and thought, have created a loyal following that sustain and help grow her burgeoning business. Customers appreciate her dedication to making hearty stews that are both comforting and healthy at the same time. There are many dishes to choose from, all deliciously mouthwatering and addictive!

Position Description:

As a member of the team, you will help develop products which can be reproduced in a Small scale food Processing environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of new Stews from concept approval, formulation, product development, Shelf life study, plant trial runs to launch and post-launch review by collaborating with marketing, sales, project management, QA and production
  • Performs sensory evaluation (evaluation during the development process / shelf life study / competitor's products)
  • Accurately document recipes and results of trials
  • Modify recipes as required to meet nutritional/quality specifications & optimize scale up
  • Formulate and develop new products
  • Keep current on product trends and consumer trends
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Experience in product development of Soups and Stews a must
  • Experience in a similar role or desire to commit to this type of work
  • Passion for Food!
  • Knowledge of functional ingredients
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Email)
  • High Energy and Flexibility are required
To succeed in this position, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Degree in Food Science or relevant program of study (i.e. Chemistry, Culinary)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in product development in the food industry
  • Retail or consumer product development experience is an asset
  • Customer-focused and innovative
