Job Description About Us:

The Grow Dat Youth Farm’s mission is to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food. On our farm we work collaboratively to produce healthy food for local residents and to inspire youth and adults to create personal, social and environmental change in their own communities. Grow Dat is a place where people from different backgrounds and disciplines come together in research and practice to support public health, local economies and a sustainable food system in South Louisiana.

Position Description:

The Operations Manager of Leadership Programs develops and oversees execution of the annual program cycle (Leadership Program and Advanced Leadership Program) to support Grow Dat’s mission to nurture a diverse group of young leaders through the meaningful work of growing food.

Key Areas of Authority: 

Manage Leadership Program and Advanced Leadership Program:

  • Manage all recruitment, hiring, firing and on-boarding of youth employees.
  • Develop and manage partner school relationships.
  • Develop and lead educational lessons and workshops.
  • Oversee curriculum development and logistical planning for educational timetable.
  • Participate in regular Real Talk feedback sessions with Grow Dat adult staff team, those you supervise and youth.
  • Lead on tracking all youth Community Standards violations/earnbacks and translating into payroll.
  • Hire and coordinate guest educators.
  • Coordinate/supervise programmatic evaluation.
  • Assist in building partnerships with other organizations and key stakeholders,
  • Coordinating with Tulane (interested classes, internships, etc).
  • Oversee transportation coordination.
  • Event coordination including: parent orientation, retreats, family farm day, community lunches, camping trip, graduation.
  • Uphold VISIONS “Guidelines” for creating community and safe space.
  • Oversee development of Program-related budget line items and report/monitor spending and earned income for Programs.
  • Manage all adult staff, fellows and interns that work in LP or ALP
Skills and Educational Requirements:

  • Experience with program development and management
  • Experience working with youth aged 15-20
  • Desire to be a part of a fast-paced non-profit/social business hybrid environment
  • Management of partnerships and relationships
  • Experience managing HR: maintaining hiring/firing systems and performance records
  • Experience working on Mac, Microsoft Office, Pages/Keynote/Office
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in written documents and orally
  • Interest or background in sustainable agriculture and/or food justice is a plus
Competencies and Training Needed:
  • Management and delegation techniques
  • Understanding of youth development and developmental phases educational practices & pedagogy
  • Teaching tools and ‘tricks of the trade’
Accountability and Relationships:

The Operations Manager of Leadership Programs reports to the Director and works directly with the Program Team. This position manages the following external relationships: partner schools, youth Crew Members and Assistant Crew Leaders (with Program Team and Social Worker), youth families (with Program Team and Social Worker), guest educators, and vendors such as Durham School Services.
