Position Title           Education and Outreach Coordinator

Salary/Benefits      $14.00 per hour; paid vacation and sick days; shopping discount; health benefits 

Hours                        30--35 hours per week

JOB SUMMARY  The Education and Outreach Coordinator develops and facilitates training and ongoing development of membership, and community partners in cooperative education, democratic governance, anti­oppression, food justice, nutrition, gardening, ecology and other relevant topics. This position may also support the Personnel Coordinator in developing and facilitating training for staff on these topics. This effort includes external outreach, internal workgroup and committee coordination and support, and evaluation of efforts.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
o   Develop topics/curriculum, identify, solicit and schedule guest speakers/facilitators, engage in partnering with ally organizations for Mariposa education and outreach events, programs, and activities
o   Ensure vigorous publicity and outreach about Mariposa’s programs and events via circulation of information in print and via on-line resources, including but not limited to Mariposa’s website and Facebook page, communication with other organizations, and circulation of print materials flyers in the store and neighborhood
o   Develop and manage annual education and outreach budget
o   Develop process and goals for allocating Mariposa’s annual donations budget
o   Create relationships and develop database of community partners in West Philadelphia and as appropriate, citywide, such as churches, clinics, non-profits, and community organizations
o   Communicate with other co-ops and co-op umbrella organizations about food justice, anti-oppression and education-related programs, ideas, problems and opportunities
o    Develop plans to participate in and engage membership around food justice and anti-oppression related political and educational campaigns consistent with Mariposa’s mission and policies, such as anti-GMO campaigns, the Take Back Vacant Land Campaign, etc
o   Coordinate and support Mariposa’s Education Committee, Facilitation Team, Food Justice and Anti-Racism Working Group, Anti-Oppression Working Group and New Member Orientation Team
o   Collaborate with Staff Collective, Operations Committee and Mariposa Board on food justice and anti-oppression related topics for training and information dissemination
o   Develop and maintain food justice and anti-oppression curricular database including content, handouts, power points, and training evaluations
o    Develop, implement and evaluate Mariposa’s Nutrition Education program in consultation with the Food Justice & Anti-Racism Working Group, Buyers Team, members and community partners o   Support the Food Justice and Anti-Racism Working Group to organize, launch and evaluate the Barbara Hirshkowitz Food Justice Library
o   Contribute to the development of new staff orientations and annual training plans with Personnel Coordinator and Organizational Development Coordinator
o    Co-coordinate the collective management of the Membership and Marketing Department with the Membership and Marketing Coordinator
o   Supervise Education and Outreach staff, interns and volunteers o   Collaborate with Membership and Marketing staff to produce Mariposa’s Newsletter
o   Report monthly to the Operations Committee and the Board of Delegates

QUALIFICATIONS

o   Exceptional interpersonal skills including customer service, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making    Experience in food justice and anti-oppression education and organizing with communities like West Philadelphia’s that are diverse across race, class, sexuality, gender and age
o   Experience in nutrition education, especially in holistic, “whole foods” and “alternative” nutrition theories
o   Proficient with basic Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Power Point)
o   Knowledge of Cooperative Grocery principles and experience working in a cooperative environment
o   Ability to work within a collective decision-making management team
