Job Description FARM GENERAL MAINTENANCE POSITION (with farm share opportunity)

Housing Work-trade position - 25 hrs/wk total

We are implementing New Earth Systems (www.mauinewearth.com) and taking over the main stewardship role on a 7.5-acre 30-year-old living food forest permaculture project that is an example of good stewardship and co-creation with Nature.

We welcome people who really have the want and need to be involved on a serious project that has the ability to change the world as well as yourselves. Our emphasis is on teaching you that Mother Nature is already perfect. We are participating observers, taking many ways of farming and putting them together -- permaculture, vermiculture, aquaponics, biodynamics. . . All powered by closed-loop sustainable energy sources.

We are somewhat remote, on the back of Haleakala volcano, with one of the most breathtaking sunset views in the world.

And since we are taking over the project, there is a lot of work to be done. There has been very little maintenance done in the last 6 years. With over 200 established trees and recently added heirloom vegetable gardens, providing an abundance of off-the-land food sources.

Currently, there are 3 long-term couples living on the property and an established WWOOFer program in place. We are 3 months in and making major progress. With an abundance of fruit falling off the trees as we speak.

FRUIT TREES
Avocado, mango, white sapote, dragon fruit, coconut, loquat, inga, guava, miracle fruit, egg fruit, sugar apple, rollinia deliciosa, star apple, lychee, coffee, sour sop, all spice, jabotacaba, mulberry, tangelo, orange, longan, grey abieu, gurumichamba, macademia, mamey sapote, cainito, banana, starfruit, atemoya, suranam cherry, poha berry, date palm, pomegranate, olive, breadfruit, passion fruit, papaya

VEGETABLES
Tomatoes, peppers, moringa, stevia, onions, taro, kale, sunflower sprouts, cucumbers, winter squashes, basil, curry, swiss chard, and much more in rotation

Tasks
- Harvesting and packing fruits and vegetables
- Preparing worm teas and composting teas for foliar sprays
- Foliar spraying trees
- Trimming
- General grounds maintenance (weed eating, mowing, waterline maintenance, eating from the garden)
- Relaxing on breaks under fruit trees, eating fruit that doesn't fall on your head
- Watching beautiful sunsets and amazing wildlife
- Sometimes you will be expected to sit at the market to sell produce in the quaint town of Makawao (There are opportunities for income here), or accompanying us to the backside of the mountain to Hana, for surfing, kitesurfing, and fishing adventures. Sometimes randomly
- Weeding
- Feeding fish
