Head of Culinary Munchery

Job Description Munchery is looking for a culinary genius with exceptional leadership skills and an entrepreneurial spirit, who understands the ins and outs of a large-scale commercial kitchen, but strives to break free from it.

This is a unique opportunity that requires all the skills of an Executive Chef and culinary leader. You will oversee menu development and food production for the Los Angeles operation of our fast-growing, SF-based start-up.

You will be responsible for crafting and executing a delightful home dining experience for both the discerning foodie and the casual eater in Los Angeles and eventually, beyond.

In this role, you will recruit and manage a team of top, local chefs, who can achieve the high standards of quality, creativity, cost management and safety that you set out for them.

Experience:
  • 10+ years in the culinary industry with a wide variety of experience at all levels of cuisine
  • 6+ years as an Executive Chef, Culinary Director, or similar
  • Deep knowledge about cuisine, preparation, ingredients sourcing, kitchen operations and food safety standard and procedures
  • Experience with large-scale food production (High-end retail, Catering Chef and/or Hotel background a plus)
  • Experience with budget management, in particular optimizing food costs

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with other highly talented chefs and earn their respect
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to keep your team on tight deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to identify patterns in data and consumer behavior and come up with scalable and effective solutions
  • Technological savvy, including proficiency in Google Docs
  • Expansive network in the Los Angeles food community
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee build-out of large commercial kitchen
  • Recruit, hire and manage top, local chefs
  • Menu planning and optimization
  • Oversee quality control & execution
  • Develop scalable strategies for efficient large-scale production and growth
  • Coordinate effectively with kitchen management and operations
  • Collaborate remotely with Culinary Director and other City Culinary Managers
