Oregon Food Bank is seeking an energetic, highly motivated Garden Education & Training Coordinator who thrives in a fast-paced, highly-fluid, work environment. As the Garden Education & Training Coordinator you excel in multi-tasking, goal-setting, accountability, and workload prioritization. You are proficient in a wide range of gardening and teaching skills. You are culturally savvy, enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and are able to demonstrate inclusivity and equity in all that you do.
This is a full time position, scheduled Monday to Friday November to March and Tuesday to Saturday April to October. There is frequent travel for work performed in the community and in support of garden education in the Portland Metro area.

You excel at fostering relationships and open dialogue with your peers and community stakeholders, leading to stronger and more efficient partnerships and programs. You have an exceptional ability to quickly address setbacks, troubleshoot issues, and seamlessly direct multiple priorities at the same time. You want to spend some time outside in the garden, but your passion also lies with developing curriculum, lesson plans, and evaluation tools to teach adults and youth living on low incomes the joys and benefits of gardening. You are self-directed, yet flexible, and excel in a swiftly changing, team-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the integrity, consistency, implementation and growth of Seed to Supper, a nationally recognized garden education program for adults, including the development of lesson plans, training materials, new curricula, and support materials.
Develop relationships and strategies with community organizations and social service agencies for the implementation of effective Seed to Supper classes.
Provide program administration, training, and support to regional partners implementing OFB's Seed to Supper program throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
Provide leadership and manage logistical support for Seed to Supper, primarily in the Portland metro area, including AmeriCorps member supervision, class scheduling, volunteer recruitment, training, and recognition.
Work collaboratively to build relationships and linkage with local and regional gardening organizations, social service and hunger-relief agencies, food systems organizations, and other partners, and oversee distribution of garden supply and equipment donations to these partners.
Serve as a garden programming consultant to OFB's Partner Agencies, Regional Food Banks, Community Food Systems partners, and other valuable stakeholders by offering troubleshooting, training, technical assistance, and other support.
Develop tools and resources to support, monitor, evaluate and grow garden education programs and measure their success.
Lead 1-2 weekly hands-on volunteer shifts in OFB's metro and Learning Gardens during the garden season in collaboration with the Learning Gardens Program Coodinator and develop new educational resources for use in onsite garden programming.
Lead garden-based activities for groups of Rachel Carson Environmental Middle School at OFB's Westside Learning Garden during the school year.
Oversee program workplan, budget, grant reporting, evaluation, and other related administrative duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience of the Ideal Candidate:
Minimum 4 years of demonstrated success in educational program development and coordination.
Demonstrated expertise or education in community-based sustainable agriculture, small-scale farming, or vegetable gardening using organic practices in the Pacific Northwest.
Proven track record training, coordinating, and effectively managing diverse volunteers.
Proven ability in adult education, curriculum development, and train-the-trainer models.
A collaborative and flexible style, with a deep passion for learning and a team approach, including excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.
Spoken and written fluency in Spanish or another language other than English.
Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook) and standard office equipment.
Willingness to use personal vehicle for OFB business.
Previous work with Master Gardeners and an understanding of Cooperative Extension Services preferred.
