Position Description:

After a disastrous last year where our Resident Farmer left the farm in mid-season for personal reasons while our owner was out of the country on a grant contract, Fresh SPIN Farms is finally back and starting harvest on our first small planting areas.  We are looking for someone who is serious about changing the face of farming and with a keen interest in urban agriculture and food plots.

Fresh SPIN Farms is a small peri-urban property ideally suited to developing and demonstrating diverse cutting edge production techniques for managing food plots.  Our objective is to provide year-round production settings accurately reproducing a wide range of conditions urban farmers and food plot producers face.  We focus on the basic natural processes involved in growing high value produce as understanding these translates across all farm scales.  The Fresh SPIN farms production site offers education and skill development demonstrated in our production areas.

An ideal candidate for Lead Farmer will be looking to break the mold of common agricultural thought while understanding the needs of food producers and consumers.  To be successful as Lead Farmer at Fresh SPIN Farms requires an orientation towards social equity, and a burning desire to help others grow the most nutritious mix of produce allowed by their circumstances.  The Lead Farmer will be responsible for implementing cultural practices, harvesting and marketing of produce, and building capacity of Fresh SPIN Farms production and educational offerings.

Located in Davis, California, our climate allows for year round diversified production with moderate use of season extension techniques.  We encourage participation of interns from the University of California, Davis and have previously marketed production through a combination of retail, wholesale, and CSA.

This is a true farming opportunity where personal income is based on the ability of the lead farmer to generate farm income.  On-site housing may be available.  Familiarity with Sacramento Valley climate would be helpful but is not required.  Fresh SPIN Farms is a tobacco and drug free zone.
