Job Description This position is responsible for carrying out Food Roots’ mission.  Other duties include ensuring financial sustainability, accountability, responsiveness, Food Roots’ future growth and high ethical standards, while supporting food and farm businesses and furthering access to healthy food. The Executive Director (ED) is hired by and reports to the Food Roots Board of Directors (Board). While the Board is responsible for setting policy and providing strategic direction, it is not involved in making day-to-day operational decisions. One of the ED’s main roles is, therefore, to act as a liaison between the Board and the rest of the organization. The ED has full discretionary power to implement the policies and directives of the Board. The ED is also responsible to the Board for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives.  

About Food Roots: Food Roots’ mission is to cultivate a healthy food system for our north Oregon coast community. Food Roots was founded in 2006 and we primarily serve those residing in Tillamook County, and in our neighboring counties, on the North Oregon Coast. Food Roots works as a catalyst and advocate for change in our rural food system, supporting increased understanding, production and access to regionally produced healthy food.  Our goals are to increase health and wealth in our local food shed.   Our programs include Farm to School (including School and Community Gardens); Education and Outreach; Community Development and Enterprise Development.   

Required Qualifications: Detailed understanding of community food and agricultural systems, highly motivated and results oriented, excellent written, oral and group presentation skills, and strong skills in managing and motivating staff, volunteers and community partners.  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, three years of management experience, successful fundraising and grant writing experience, experience in developing community partnerships.  

Preferred Qualifications: Background in agriculture and/or food systems and non-profit management.  

Compensation:  $46,368 annual salary.  In lieu of separate sick and vacation leaves, Food Roots provides up to 192 hours per year of personal time off accrued at the rate of 16 hours per month for full-time regular employees.  In addition to personal leave there will be nine paid holidays per year for all regular employees. Employees will be paid their holidays based on their FTE.
