Farm Crew Leader Edible Earth Farm

Job Description Edible Earth Farm is a USDA certified organic farm located along the Allegheny River in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. Edible Earth Farm manages a 250-member CSA program, participates in local farmer’s markets and supplies regional restaurants, grocery stores and institutional kitchens. In addition to growing certified organic vegetables, fruit, mushrooms and ginger, the farm also raises poultry and hogs.

Job Description

The Crew Lead will collaborate with the Farm Managers to ensure the daily functioning of the farm.  Excellent leadership and management skills are a requirement for this position. The individual will have an eye for improving efficiencies, will maintain a positive attitude, display gratitude, be competent, have proven time management skills and have a strong work ethic.

The primary responsibilities of Crew Lead include:
  • leading harvest crew 2-3 days a week, leading tomato pruning and trellising crew
  • leading weeding crew, leading transplanting crew and working with Field Specialists to identify needs and allocate human resources to meet those needs
  • participate in chicken processing
  • oversee organic recordkeeping and oversee grounds maintenance
  • direct and mentor other staff by providing guidance, clear instructions and monitoring
  • act as a liaison between the Farm Managers, Apprentices and Field Specialists
  • monitor team morale and report issues to Farm Managers
  • follow weekly farm schedules and directives
  • keep a constant “to do” list based on meetings with Farm Managers and Field Specialists.
The position requires flexibility and adaptability as weather and other factors can often affect the daily plan. Two years minimum full season organic farm experience required.

  • Have a positive, enthusiastic, and supportive attitude, while displaying gratitude. 

Interviewing for the 2015 seasons. Full-time hours are 50-55 hours a week. Performance reviews will be conducted a minimum of three times throughout the season.

Must be able to follow directions, take criticism, be quick to learn and be detail-oriented. Must be physically fit and able to lift 60 pounds. Must have a car for transportation. Non-smoking work environment. No pets!
