Capital Roots is working to reduce the impact of poor nutrition on public health in New York’s Capital Region by organizing community gardens, providing healthy food access, offering nutritional and horticultural education for all ages and coordinating urban greening programs in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and southern Saratoga Counties.
Capital Roots’ Community Garden Program makes community food plots available to hundreds of gardening families in our 50 community gardens across the Region.
The Seasonal Garden Organizer's responsibilities include:
- Register returning gardeners and conduct orientations for new participants.
- Have firm understanding of Community Gardening Handbook.
- Generate new database and contact lists for program participants.
- Lead garden work parties.
- Site preparation and new garden development.
- Foster greater gardener involvement in program.
- Assist Outreach Coordinator in promoting the community gardening program.
- Be committed to the mission of Capital Roots.
- Motivated and energetic person who enjoys physical activity and working outdoors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working with diverse populations.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Community organizing and/or gardening experience preferred.
