Mill City Grows is growing a healthier community in Lowell, MA by creating new opportunities for residents to access healthy, fresh, affordable foods. Our mission is to foster food justice in Lowell by improving physical health, economic independence and environmental sustainability through increased access to land, locally grown food and education. We are a young organization with passionate staff and dedicated volunteers and seek a motivated and well-organized individual committed to the values of our work to fill the Education Manager position.

Position Description
The Education Manager will oversee Mill City Grows education programs, including adult and youth education programs - the Garden Coordinator Institute, School-Based Programming, and Youth Food Justice programming. The Education Manager will also manage the USDA Farm to School Grant and Farm to School Task Force. This position plays a crucial role in the organization, ensuring high-quality educational curriculum is being developed, delivered and evaluated. Supervisory responsibilities include overseeing FoodCorps Service Member(s) and seasonal interns. Collaboration with the Community Program Manager to build community education programs is a key responsibility.  

The Education Manager responsibilities include:
  • Provide supervision for FoodCorps Service Members, including after school curriculum planning support, program observation and feedback, and overall professional development
  • Oversee all School-Based Education Programming in Lowell Public Schools, including acting as a liaison with LPS administrations, teachers, and community
  • In partnership with the Community Programs Manager, coordinate and team teach the Garden Coordinator Institute, including outreach, scheduling, curriculum revisions and delivery of workshops
  • Oversee planning for design and implementation of new school gardens, including coordination of construction, collaboration with various stakeholders and development of curriculum for Farm to School workshops
  • Develop and deliver youth food justice programming, including creation and delivery of workshops to various youth groups
  • Evaluate programs and make data-driven improvements, expanding existing programs/curriculum and creating new programs/curriculum to broaden depth and breadth of Mill City Grows impact on community heath

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of educational program curriculum development and delivery: priority for experience in a school setting
  • Preferred 3+ years vegetable gardening experience, certificate program preferred
  • Preferred supervisory experience
  • Passion for food, nutrition, gardening and its impact on community health
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Detail oriented and motivated to lead projects
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • BA required, Advanced Degree in Education preferred
  • Independent transportation, Safe driving record, a valid drivers license, proof of personal auto insurance
