Julian, California

Camp Stevens is a year-round retreat center, outdoor education facility, and summer camp. Our mission is to inspire, challenge, and empower personal, social and environmental transformation through connection with each other and the natural world, and the fostering of openness, gratitude, and wonder. Our 256 acre site is located in a unique Southern California Mountain environment of pine-oak woodland. We are a simple yet comfortable facility with many hiking trails, organic gardens, fruit trees, chickens, pigs, and a one acre organic vegetable farm that enhances our programs as well as provides our kitchen with farm-fresh produce.

The Naturalist/Garden Program coordinator position is a unique opportunity for an individual who has been working as either a naturalist in outdoor education or as a garden educator. He/she will work closely with both our Program Director and our Farm and Garden Director to develop and implement program for our summer camp as well as mentor and train our summer camp staff and counselors, and work with children - specifically ways in which agro-ecology and other experiential outdoor education can be integrated into our programs. While there will be some “hands in the dirt” farming/gardening responsibilities, the bulk of this position’s responsibilities will be programmatic - helping to coordinate, inspire, and empower our staff and campers to connect with the ecology of our gardens, farm, and wild lands.
