Executive Director Huerto de la Familia (Family Garden)

Job Description Mission: Huerto de la Familia offers Latino families a place to connect to our roots and the earth by growing our own food, as well as training and peer education in organic gardening, small-scale farming and small business creation. We build wide-ranging partnerships to achieve our goals of cultural identity, community integration and economic self-sufficiency in the Latino community. 

Requirements
  • Ability to develop, maintain and respect relationships (organizational partners, donors, foundations and in some cases, participants)
  •  Experience with and understanding of the strengths   and challenges of the Latino immigrant community 
  •  Bilingual in Spanish and English (spoken most important
  • Able to articulate social justice/food justice issues
  • Non-profit experience, preferably in administration and fund development
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills                                                                                                
  • Ability to use excel, and to maintain the website (Word press) , database (Nation Builder), and Mail chimp
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the organization including: 

Developing and maintaining organizational partnerships and collaborations.   This includes involvement with the Alliance for Healthy Families, the Lane County Health Improvement Plan Equity Work group and the Integration Network for Immigrants of Lane County, as well as other collaborations. 

Fund development: grant writing and working closely with a grant writing business; donor management, donor relationships and solicitation, including outreach strategies for new donors; and overseeing the annual Festival Latino fundraising event. 

Grant Management: tracking all grants, and submitting program and financial reports as required by the funder. 

Program Development: working closely with the staff to develop programs as necessary 

Financial management: budgeting, tracking income and expenses, and preparing the financials to give to the bookkeeper. 

Staff and administrative volunteer supervision: supervising staff, organizing staff meetings as necessary and ensuring that programs are staying on task and fulfilling their goals, objectives and activities. Responsible for hiring and dismissal of staff. 

Working with the Board of Directors: act as a liaison between the board of directors and the rest of the organization. Meet with the board regularly to keep them informed on operational issues and work with them to come up with strategic solutions to complex challenges. Hold monthly board meetings including setting an agenda in partnership with the board president, and providing financial information to the board treasurer prior to meetings. Responsible to work with board members to solicit new members and offer trainings to strengthen current board of directors. 

Public Relations and Communications: Performing and/overseeing written communications with the public, professional contacts and donors via Facebook, mail chimp, and via paper and on-line newsletters.
