Job Description Manhattan restaurant and wine bar in its infancy seeks Front of House Manager/Wine Buyer 

The Front of House (FOH) manager is an integral part of the management team and a strong leader. He or she sets a professional example for other staff guided by an inexhaustible work ethic and commitment to the customer experience. The FOH manager creates and is responsible for all aspects of the customer experience during service. The FOH manager is also the wine buyer and responsible for curating the wine list. 

Responsibilities include: 
  • Setting the tone for and implementing all elements of service in a wine focused restaurant open for full-service lunch, dinner and brunch
  • Working as the floor manager, serving and bartending as necessary
  • Understanding very well the demands of a restaurant open for 13 hours daily
  • Maintaining excellent customer relations, addressing concerns and requests in an appropriate and timely manner and using them to inform constant restaurant/wine bar improvement
  • Recruiting, hiring, scheduling, evaluating and motivating staff
  • Overseeing ongoing training of server staff, providing them with complete fluency in and comfort with the food, wine, and beer we offer
  • Modeling, communicating, and enforcing the employee and manager policies
  • Driving a menu experience for customers that is elegant, accurate, and representative of our brand in terms of quality, vocabulary and appearance
  • Developing and maintaining a wine list with a clear vision; ordering and maintaining wine inventory and creating a weekly budget
  • Setting and meeting sales goals through restaurant-focused activities in concert with the chef and director of operations
  • Initiating and implementing revenue-generating activities to increase evening sales, including but not limited to classes, tastings, private dinners, special events, and other ideas to bring in new customers
  • Overseeing and ensuring success of all events that take place in the restaurant
  • Supporting both FOH and BOH staff as needed
  • Monitoring and controlling “the pass” to ensure all dishes are up to standard when the chef is not present
  • Assisting chef in maintaining vendor relations and aids in troubleshooting day to day restaurant logistics and issues, including but not limited to shared vendors (lines, equipment rental, etc.)
  • Maintaining all Department of Health standards in front and back of house
  • Working knowledge of point of sale systems, cash reconciliation, and controlling cash deposits
 Qualifications/Experience
  • 1+ year in front-of-house management
  • Ability to think critically and make sound decisions in high-pressure work environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask
  • Experience with event planning
  • Experience with wine selection and ordering; working knowledge of wine and beer styles, regions, etc.
  • Some kitchen experience preferred
  • A natural leader and team player who motivates and trains others effectively
  • Strong communications skills and a collaborative demeanor
  • Familiarity with menu development and graphic editing preferred
