Job Description Harlow’s Vermont Farmstand at the Boston Public Market is looking for customer focused staff interested in Vermont produce, cheese, and high quality foods to operate our new year-round retail farm stand at the Boston Public Market. The ideal candidate would have previous retail experience and have an interest in displays and customer engagement. 

Harlow Farm is one of the oldest and largest organic vegetable farms in Vermont. The Farm operates a diverse food production business focusing on growing and marketing organic vegetables as the core business supplemented by free range beefalo, chickens, eggs, as well as operating a licensed commercial kitchen for value-added production. We have part time roles available to assist us with the following:

• Customer engagement and sales assistance
• Preparing fresh produce for retail store display
• Maintaining a clean and sharp looking display and store appearance
• Maintaining inventory and selecting product for the store shelves

Farmstand Staff shall have

• Prior experience in retail environments is a must. Retail experience working with perishables, such as produce and dairy, especially cheese, would be preferred. Must be personable and outgoing, willing to engage and educate an audience on the products for sale within the store.
• A willingness and interest in learning more about fresh produce, cheese, and other Vermont products anticipated to be sold through the store.
• Experience in setting up store displays with an emphasis on fresh produce sales would be highly desirable.

Staff Duties include

• Provide outstanding customer service by making our customer’s shopping experience enjoyable and fun-filled.
• Maintains a safe and clean store environment that meets relevant health and food safety, and occupational safety standards. Includes sweeping, mopping, and carrying out setup and cleanup activities.
• Promotes sales by demonstrating merchandise and products to customers.  Assists customers by providing information; answering questions; obtaining merchandise requested; completing payment transactions.

Qualifications

• High School and/or Associates Degree plus relevant experience in retail
• Must be able to frequently lift 50 pounds.
• Store operates five days a week. Wed-Sunday. Expected to be available the days of operation.

Compensation

• Part time position (16-24 hours),  $13-15 per hour based on experience
