Receiving Lead Local Foods

Job Description We're Chicago's premier local foods hub - public market, butcher shop and café at 1427 W. Willow St. (near North Ave. and Elston) in Chicago. We're taking a fresh approach to food distribution, building relationships with producers and chefs so they can concentrate on what they do best: farming and preparing delicious local foods.

Job Duties: The Receiving Lead reports to the Director of Purchasing.  The Receiving Lead ensures that all product received into the Local Foods Warehouse is received accurately, timely, safely and is effectively communicated to the Local Foods Team.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Receive, Quality Check, Label, Stock, and Consolidate all inbound product
    • Ensure that all product received meets Local Foods quality standards
  • Assist with Daily Purchasing Routines
    • Reconcile invoices against purchase orders and communicate issues to vendors and purchasing team
    • Assist with the creation of Purchase Orders, updating Product Information to maintain an accurate Inventory in ERP Software
    • Communicate closely with the Purchasing, Operations and Sales Team to ensure that we are receiving the best possible product at the most effective price
    • Assist with Building and maintaining long term relationships with Vendors
  • Contribute to a clean and organized warehouse and maintain the highest levels of personal hygiene and workplace sanitation
  • Develop and Implement Improvements for Receiving & Inventory Processes
    • Verify all weights, quantities and prices received match those on the invoice
    • Track, report and communicate inbound discrepancies in timely and detailed manner
  • Effectively train and lead a crew for all receive work
    • Provide training and oversight on receiving standards, storage requirements and quality expectations to ensure that all product received by Local Foods is of exceptional quality
  • Maintain a food-safe and organized Receiving Dock

Requirements
  • Three years relevant receiving experience preferred
  • Thorough Knowledge of Industry Quality Control Specs
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and ERP Software
  • Must be able to work flexible hours depending on the work load
  • A strong work ethic, outstanding reliability and a great attitude
  • Must consistently work at a high level of accuracy with great focus and attention to detail
  • Experience Training and Managing Teams
  • Must be able to work in a refrigerated cooler for and extended time at 35 degrees
  • Able to analyze information gathered in order to identify potential problems or discrepancies
