Job Description The Brooklyn Kitchen is a cooking store that offers equipment, education, and ingredients. We help people find the skills, tools, and food to nourish themselves, their families, and their friends.

We are currently looking for a Culinary Instructor to join our team. The primary role of the Culinary Instructor will be to teach core classes at The Brooklyn Kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be involved in recipe testing and development, class preparation, and in-house production work.

We expect the Culinary Instructor to accomplish this by:
  • Teaching repertory cooking classes 2-3 times per week to home cooks of all levels; these include Knife Skills, Sauces, Pickling, Donuts, Easy Weeknight Meals, Seasonal Seafood, among others.
  • Providing recipe research and testing
  • Coordinating with Grocery department to plan, make, and ensure a robust stock of prepared food
  • Maintaining a safe and clean kitchen
  • Coordinating with the E-Commerce department to provide remote customers with recipes, inspirations, and guidelines for ingredient use
What we’re looking for:
  • 1-3 years of back of house food preparation experience; understanding of specialty grocery and local produce channel preferred
  • An interest in culinary pedagogy and a friendly, earnest attitude
  • A palate for delicious, interesting, and meaningful food
  • Exceptionally high standards for tidiness and cleanliness
  • Demonstrated knowledge in and enthusiasm for the food and housewares industry
  • Experience in a multi-discipline operation; ability to work cross-functionally as part of a varied team
  • Open full time availability - mornings, evenings, weekends
  • Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours at a time
  • Current New York City Department of Health's Food Protection Certificate
