Job Description Organization
Founded in 2009, the Montezuma School to Farm Project mission is to unite our local agricultural heritage with our growing future by engaging students at the crossroads of sustainable agriculture, resource conservation, health and economics through experiential education opportunities in outdoor garden classrooms, farm field trips, youth farmer apprenticeship programs and summer farm camps.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Mancos Conservation District governing Board of Directors, the Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for 10 staff, programs, expansion, finances and execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, budget and strategic plans.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to leadership in the following areas:
  • Fiscal Responsibility for Grant writing, Fundraising, and Planning for a $250,000+ Annual Budget
  • Program and Systems Development and Implementation
  • Staff Hiring, Trainings, Evaluations and Supervision
  • Strategic Planning, Program Evaluation and Tracking
  • Community/Regional/National Relationship Building and Donor Development
  • Media, Education and Outreach
  • Oversight of 5 School Garden sites, 1 City of Cortez Recreation Center Garden Site, Summer Farm Camp and Apprenticeship Programs, and Farm Field Trips for 2500+ students annually.
Leadership & Management:
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
  • Actively engage and energize MSTFP volunteers, board members, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents
  Fundraising & Communications:
  • Expand local, regional, state and national revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and program development goals
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger partnerships and relationships as well as educating the public about MSTFP and MCD
Strategic Planning & New Programs:
  • Develop and Implement 3-5 year Strategic Plans with MSTFP team
  • Build new collaborative partnerships, establishing relationships with the funders and community leaders
  • Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication
 QUALIFICATIONS:The Director will be thoroughly committed to MSTFP’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, organizational, fiscal and relationship management experience.

Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:
  • Degree in related field or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 3 years of management experience
  • Track record of effectively leading and regionally scaling an innovative organization and staff
  • Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Unwavering commitment to quality school garden based experiential education programming
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach/mentor staff, manage, and develop effective and supportive teams, set and achieve strategic objectives
  • Experience in successfully developing, funding and managing a budget
  • Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to non-profit/business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
