Company description NY Sun Works is a non profit organization that promotes sustainability through science education. The organization’s current focus is The Greenhouse Project, an initiative that builds 21st century environmental science labs in urban school. These spacious facilities packed with hands-on equipment invite students to study ecological science, natural resources, and human productivity through the lens of hydroponic urban farming. With 30 labs up and running and 14 new sites scheduled to be built in 2016, we are looking to expand our team to ensure a successful growth. Job description NYSW is looking to fill the position of  Hydroponic Farms Manager. The Manager will work with the current NYSW team to build  individual Greenhouse Projects sites at NY Sun Works’ school partners.

The Hydroponic Farms Manager is a full time position, spent primarily on-site at NYSW hydroponic farm labs at K - 12th grade schools throughout NYC 5 Boroughs and New Jersey.

The successful candidate will:
  • Work with NYSW team to design and build hydroponic systems and classroom spaces
  • Work with school teams, architects, and engineers to ensure a smooth planning, design and building process.  
  • Lead installations team to ensure successful completion of Greenhouse Project Labs at partner schools in a timely manner.
  • Provide and oversee ongoing Greenhouse Project Lab maintenance at NYSW partner schools.

Salary from $42K - $45K subject to 6 month review; health care; 3 weeks vacation/year after completion of first year of work. Potential for growth within the organization.

The ideal candidate should be passionate for NYSW mission and deeply committed to science, sustainability, and education in the urban environment

Candidate must have a track record that includes:
  • 3 years + relevant work experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Hydroponics (aquaponics a plus)
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Comfortable teaching others
  • Comfortable working in a constantly changing environment
  • Degree in a relevant field is a plus
  • Non-profit experience is a plus
