Role Purpose

Wholesome Wave is looking for a smart, cooperative, energetic candidate to join our Development Department. The Foundation Manager will be responsible for relationship management with external partner foundations, researching potential new foundation donors, writing LOIs, concept notes, grants, and reports, building foundation relationships, and supporting the department in securing sustainable institutional funding.

 

Main Accountabilities

  • Develop, launch, promote, execute, and support the acquisition of new foundation giving to generate revenue and engage new prospective institutional partners
  • Write LOIs and grant proposals as well as reports for current grants
  • Develop budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Research and identify prospective partners within specified criteria
  • Develop proposals and deliver presentations via email, phone, online grant applications, and in person
  • Assume responsibility for relationship management for new partners
  • Oversee execution of recognition and benefits related to foundation commitments including activation, agreements, signage, online and offline communication channels, and collateral materials
  • Work with Communications, Events and other departments to develop and execute partnerships
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Wholesome Wave and it mission
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop strategies and programs to drive partnerships
  • Work with department team members to steward existing partnerships as needed

 

Management Scope

This position does not manage any staff directly, but will be expected to lead teams of program, development, and/or marketing staff associated with specific projects.

 

Impact and Influence

The position has significant impact on the organization, as private foundation funding is a vital revenue stream. This individual will have primary responsibility for cultivating and maintaining private foundation relationships that will result in revenues of $2-3 million per year, by cultivating and maintaining existing relationships as well as developing 5-10 new foundation relationships per year.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • At least three years of direct experience in institutional fundraising and grantwriting, as well as donor cultivation and relationship management
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience and skills in project management and leading project-related teams
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter: ability to use initiative effectively and appropriately, working in a hands-on environment with limited resources and minimal supervision
  • Computer literacy, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Raiser’s Edge fundraising software a plus
  • Social and cultural competence: ability to work with many different people and personalities from diverse backgrounds
  • Highly organized: ability to successfully manage many projects with multiple moving parts and strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Smart and interesting: ability to catch on to ideas quickly and run with them in interesting directions
  • Professional: knowledge of how to act in a professional setting that sets the tone for others
  • Passion for the mission of Wholesome Wave; strong commitment to social justice and food equity

Compensation, Time and Classification

  • Exempt full-time salaried position
  • Salary commensurate with skills and experience 
  • Working hours Monday-Friday 9-5 with some flexibility
  • Occasional travel during evenings and weekends, where applicable 
  • Based out of our Bridgeport, CT office
