with good food is finding a good food job.\u00a0 Lisa knows from experience.\u00a0 But when you have a calling, what else can you do?\u00a0 After two decades as a Lobbyist, Lisa decided to make a change and hightailed it to the University of Gastronomic Sciences to get her Master in Food Culture.\u00a0 Five years and a life savings later, she<\/em>&#8216;s <em>landed a spot at a small East Bay\/Oakland chocolate company.\u00a0 It may have taken a while, but who needs benefits when you have access to unlimited chocolate?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><!--more-->What attracted you to a good food job?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had started to feel as if politics was zapping my soul, so I made the decision to follow my passion, not paychecks &#8211; and that was food.\u00a0 I was wanted to work on something that had meaning to me and always made me happy.<\/p>\n<div><em><strong>How did you get your current good food job?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div>I answered an ad on Craigslist for a chocolate assistant.\u00a0 While I had not worked with chocolate before, it seemed like it would be interesting, as well as challenging, as chocolate is a fickle medium.\u00a0 While I did NOT get the chocolate assistant job, I was asked to work with the company regardless and ended up with the title of Sales Manager for lack of better description &#8211; chocolate pimp didn&#8217;t seem quite right, although somewhat accurate.<em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong> <\/em><\/div>\n<p><strong><em>How did your previous work or life experience prepare you for a good food job? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Previous life experiences gave me an interest in, and appreciation for, good food.\u00a0 Eating, traveling, learning about food &#8211; those were the things that excited me.\u00a0 My previous job as a lobbyist gave me a solid foundation in the care and feeding of clients and colleagues and those skills translate well to dealing with consumers.\u00a0  Combined, these experiences have given me the ability to understand, recognize, talk and write about good food.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What advice do you have for others in search of a good food job?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Talk to everyone you can and check this website often (<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Editor&#8217;s Note<\/span><\/em><em>: We did not pay her to say that<\/em>).\u00a0 It feels like our country is (finally) getting serious about food, good food, and that the kinds of jobs we want and the kinds of companies we want to work for, are just now being created, often by us!\u00a0 Creativity and persistence are building a new food world paradigm. \u00a0\u00a0 <em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If you could be compensated for your work with
