\nWhat attracted you to a good food job? <\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n

Working in food was one of those thing I always talked about wanting, but didn’t actually think would ever happen for me. But after spending the year in Italy as a master’s student learning about food from every angle, there was no looking back. There’s so much going on in the food world right now and I wanted in on the action. To that end, capitalizing on my previous experience in advertising seemed like the best foray into the industry.<\/div>\n

\nHow did you get your current good food job?<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n

\n<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n
I’m a Goodfoodjobs.com<\/a> success story! I found Great Performances’ posting<\/a> on the site, sent a cover letter and resume and received a call from HR requesting an interview in about a week. Two interviews and three days later I started work!<\/div>\n

How did your previous work or life experience prepare you for a good food job?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m so excited about my new job because it equally draws on my previous experience in advertising and my Master’s Degree in Food Culture and Communications from the University of Gastronomic Sciences<\/a>. My time in advertising taught me to keep up in a fast paced environment and effectively communicate. As a master’s student I spent time in the classroom either critically analyzing food from historical, anthropological and sociological perspectives or traveling throughout Europe to see first hand the cross sections between food and people. In this new position I’ll be marketing Great Performances,<\/a> a high-end catering and event planning company. Great Performances also owns Katchkie Farm<\/a>, an organic operation that provides produce to eight restaurants throughout the city that Great Performances operates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What advice do you have for others in search of a good food job?<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/em><\/strong>
\nBe proactive–do your research, find the job you want and get in contact with decision makers. I’m always shocked by how far personal networks can stretch. Talk to your friends and family about what you’re looking for; chances are they can help.<\/div>\n

If you could be compensated for your work with something other than money, what would it be?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
