We focus on serving fun, interesting takes on classic pastries, breads, cakes, and sandwiches. We serve coffee that we source and roast ourselves. We are lucky enough to live in a place where we have access to beautiful ingredients, and have relationships with our farmers and the community around us! Evening Shift Baker

This is a full-time evening shift (4 days/week, 4pm to midnight) that reports to the Bakery Manager and Production Manager. The Evening Shift Baker is responsible for the preparation and production of various baked goods and prepped ingredients, and must be able to work under minimal guidance in the evening hours. An effective baker at Tandem must be able to follow instructions and recipes to meet specific standards in an effort to maintain the highest quality. This position requires you to mix, prep, and bake many different types of doughs and batters. The necessary skills of focus, attention to detail, pastry and baking experience, and efficiency are of utmost importance.

We are a small team that works closely and it is very important that we all work together with a sense of urgency, desire to pay it forward and ultimately have a great time. Friendly, natural, approachable customer service and interpersonal skills are required.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • demonstrate a true desire to satisfy the needs of the bakery in a fast paced environment, making sure product quality always comes first
  • provide pleasant, inviting, and attentive service for customers and colleagues
  • demonstrate strong product knowledge and have ability to learn and follow all recipes
  • work with a sense of urgency, creativity and ability to make decisions while paying attention to detail and managing your own time
  • keep your area and tools clean, and keep the kitchen prepped and ready for the morning crew when done with tasks
  • check the quality of raw materials to ensure that standards and specifications are met
  • ensure proper measurement and/or weight of ingredients to prepare several kinds of dough, batter, mixes and baked goods
  • set proper time and speed controls of mixers, ovens or other equipment, ensuring that ingredients are mixed or baked according to instructions
  • communicate with supervisors and peers by telephone, in writing or, whenever possible, in person to ensure that everyone is up to date on issues that need to be addressed. For example repair and maintenance needs of equipment and kitchen tools
  • full knowledge of work flow and time management

Requirements:

  • must be 18+ years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent education
  • 2 years baking or kitchen experience necessary
  • demonstrate enthusiasm for service and teamwork
  • consistent attendance and punctuality
  • ability to focus on tasks and take direction in an open kitchen
  • good problem solving in the moment
  • excellent communication and listening skills with customers, coworkers, and managers
  • consistent attention to detail, cleanliness, and organization
  • ability to self direct
  • ablility to perform physical tasks - lift 50 lbs above waist and stand for long periods of time
