TITLE: Organic Garden Program Manager

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUPERVISES: Organic Garden Program Assistant (if any), Groundskeeper (if any)

EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt Part-Time. .75 FTE.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This person’s primary responsibility is to manage all garden sites and participants of the Organic Garden Program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

English/Spanish bilingual required

Culturally Competent

Able to work independently/self-motivated

Knowledge of organic vegetable gardening in the Pacific Northwest required

Greenhouse experience a plus

Able to coordinate volunteers in the gardens

Ability to learn and teach a garden curriculum

Able to handle logistics around any special events or workshops

Valid OR driver’s license and auto insurance, along with access to a vehicle
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize and maintain database of current and past gardening families
  • Orient new gardening families (paperwork, payment for plot, rules of the garden)
  • Put families on waiting list as they call in
  • Organize monthly meetings with families as needed
  • Plan and give regular gardening classes using the Seed to Supper curriculum
  • Invite guests to provide workshops: garden related, health related, and food preservation
  • Solicit, pick up and deliver plants, seeds and supplies to all garden sites
  • Contact volunteers about meetings/opportunities
  • Provide one-on-one garden education and assistance to families at the garden
  • Be on site one evening per week, during the growing season, to help families
  • Be aware of any specific gardening tasks that need to be passed along to the groundskeeper- such as broken tools, compost pile dumps or errands that require a truck
  • Work with Executive Director on program planning, budgeting, and grant writing
  • Writing grant reports as directed by the Executive Director
  • Help with Huerto de la Familia’s special events or fundraising tasks as needed
