We work closely with farmers in the Athens area to plan a menu that focuses on locally sourced produce and sustainably and humanely raised animals.
Our food is rooted in a Southern tradition, but embraces and incorporates the cuisines of the people who have migrated to the South from all over the world and have found a new home in Georgia.
Our management strives to work within the bounds of servant leadership, and we want our employees to feel comfortable and fully equipped to give the best service experience possible to our guests and to one another. Job description This position oversees all kitchen related activity and includes the following responsibilities:
- menu planning and execution
- hiring and training new employees
- sourcing new products
- overseeing the ordering process
- overseeing inventory & managing food cost
- scheduling & balancing labor to maintain proper labor cost
- representing the restaurant at offsite events & to the media
- maintaining high morale within the restaurant staff
We have formed close relationships to many members of the local farming community, and encourage our chef to spend time getting to know the people behind the food that we produce. In addition, when developing our menu, we encourage our chef to present dishes with some sort of personal connection or cultural significance and to teach our staff how to present these dishes at the table so that the guest understands our menu choices.
This position would be a good next step for a talented and driven sous chef that is ready to move forward with their career, for someone who would like to make a change from a more corporate environment to one with more opportunity for creative expression, or for someone who would like to find a place to work that values their staff, fosters a culture of appreciation, and encourages professional and personal growth within a positive working environment. The ideal candidate would have some prior experience managing staff and administrative duties.
Compensation is dependent upon experience but starts in the lower $40s. While we understand that nationally this feels like a low salary, if you are moving into Athens from out of town, it is worthwhile to note that the cost of living in Athens is relatively low compared to many major metropolitan areas and that due to Athens being a college town, we have a lot to offer culturally for the cost of living of a small town. We provide full healthcare coverage for this position, as well as 2 weeks of paid vacation. We also encourage our chef to seek out opportunities for continued learning and we cover or supplement the cost for these opportunities. Some past examples include the Chefs Collaborative Summit, the Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium, and the Georgia Organics conference.
