  • Location Amherst, MA
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job Type Part-Time
Company Description We are a 10 acre farm marketing to a 125 member neighborhood summer CSA. We also run a winter share and are beginning a spring share in 2018 for year round annual and perennial production outdoors and in high tunnels.

In addition to the CSA, we began in 2011 with an educational internship facilitating the cooperation of over a dozen different farms to provide a unique model for beginning farmer training. The internship has not been run since 2015, but we hope to continue it in some form along with on farm research, and consulting in the near future.

Our current priority is to operate the CSA as our core function while providing stable and steady year round employment with a living wage and ample time outside of work to pursue individual goals. Job Description Harvesting is our entry level position and has the benefit of flexibility for students or people working more than one job or pursuing other interests. Hours can range from 15-30 hours per week, 7am-noon on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays are required from June 1st until Labor day, any additional hours can be scheduled to fit your needs. Over the course of a season, we harvest about 36 different crops for CSA pick ups. On an average week we harvest 12 crops and the harvest changes slightly each week. We generally harvest for no more than 40-50  shares during in a morning, so the work is fast paced and transitions frequently.

Weekly harvests are the first priority, but they are typically finished within 15 hours. Besides harvesting, the work changes seasonally. Planting and weeding are a priority in the Spring and mid-Summer, bulk harvests for storage begin mid-Summer and continue into fall along with field clean up and cover crop management.

Beginning at 12$/hr, there is a 1$/hr raise after the first month, and an additional 1$ raise to 14$/hr after 4 months. Year round employment is available, but hours may be limited from December through March. Compensation this position is PAID: hourly, varies DOE, $12.00 - $15.00 How to apply
