A non-profit 501(C)(3) organization, HealthMPowers was founded in 1999 to promote healthy eating and physical activity in schools using the evidence-based guidelines established by the CDC. Though child obesity is a critical issue in Georgia and the nation at large, there are few organizations providing in-school  services and training to reach this core audience. Job description
  • Serving: Bibb and Clayton County

  • Assist with internal communication and coordination of all HealthMPowers work being conducted in the partnering communities
  • Seek press and recognition for the SNAP-Ed and HealthMPowers community projects
  • Consistently engage with community leaders to ensure HealthMPowers work complements and supports (not duplicates/supplants) the goals established by the community (e.g. Family Connection and/or Department of Public Health action plans)
  • Schedule and conduct periodic conversations with parents, community members and food growers/retailers targeting healthy food access
  • Partner with local food retailers (inclusive of grocery stores, corner stores, farmers markets, farm trucks, mobile vending, etc.) to increase access to fruits and vegetables
  • Reinforce the social marketing messages of Eat, Drink, Move with local non-profits, community centers and food retail outlets
  • Schedule and conduct adult education and fruit/vegetable taste-testing demonstrations that reinforce the importance of healthy eating and physical activity at food retail outlets, local non-profits and community centers
  • Represent SNAP-Ed and HealthMPowers on committees addressing community mobilization and health improvement
  • Support school and community healthy eating and physical activity promotion events
  • Document work with community to show progress toward accomplishment of program objectives
  • Collect and submit sector data as required
  • Provide technical assistance and advice to schools and community
  • Assist other HealthMPowers programs as needed.
  • Perform clerical and non-instructional assignments as assigned
  • Ensure program implementation is consistent with HealthMPowers quality standards and evidence based practices
  • Maintain accurate travel logs and expenses
  • Meet regularly with program manager and sector director for training and support
  • Ongoing documentation of policy, systems and environmental changes in the community and food outlets
  • Capacity for home office and storage for educational reinforcements and materials
  • Other duties as assigned
