Owner/Operator The Nomadic Oven

  • Date Posted January 09, 2018
  • Location Burlington, VT
  • Category Culinary / Production
  • Job type Business for sale
Company description The Nomadic Oven, Burlington's beloved travel-inspired bakery, is for sale. The bakery specializes in producing a beautiful, consistent product using local, organic, and responsibly sourced ingredients. The bakery was established in 2009 and is a staple at The Burlington Farmers' Market.

List price is $20,000. To receive more details and an itemized list of what is included in the sale, please reply to this post, or email us directly at thenomadicoven@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you! Job description The Nomadic Oven is registered with the Secretary of State (VT) a sole proprietor LLC and can be completely run- from the books to the baking- by a single person. The business offers a great deal of flexibility, since it does not occupy a brick-and-mortar location like many traditional bakeries. This means that the business can be moved to a different kitchen, to a different town, or across state lines! Vermont is a fantastically small-business friendly state, and no experience (business or baking) is absolutely mandatory to succeed at owning The Nomadic Oven!

In the past, the bakery has operated on a part-time, seasonal basis, with the previous owner filling the other part of their work weeks with freelance writing, organic farming, and school. This model required anywhere from twenty to thirty five hours per week in the kitchen, from May through October, and as a one-person show, payed approximately $25/hour.  This time was spent producing a 15-20 product lineup for the weekly Burlington Farmers' Market, and filling special orders (birthday/wedding cakes, pastry platters, etc.), which average 2/week. Production could certainly be scaled up and made into a full-time venture if past wholesale accounts were to be reopened, new business relationships formed, and additional markets attended.
