Left Field Farm is an eight acre organic veggie farm on the edge of Merrymeeting Bay in Bowdoinham, Maine. This is the farm's 6th season of production growing a diverse mix of crops. We market our produce through a 150-member CSA program serving Bowdoinham and the Portland area and wholesale distribution to local restaurants and stores. Job description

Left Field Farm is seeking full-time farm hands for the 2018 season. We are looking to fill multiple positions:
 

Greenhouse Manager

A full-time position overseeing greenhouse and seedling production for the season. Employment begins in April (part-time in March available) and continues through October. This is a full-time position (approx. 40 hrs/wk). In spring the majority of time is spent seeding, potting up, watering, record keeping, and overseeing seedling production. In summer the majority of time is spent as part of the field crew with approximately 1/4 of your time managing greenhouse production. This is a good opportunity for someone to take on significant responsibility, gain management experience, and continue to learn small scale farming of a diversity of crops. Must be well-organized and detail oriented. Previous farm experience required.
 

Field Crew

Employment begins in May and continues through October (approx. 40 hrs/wk). There is some potential for schedule flexibility, as well as continued part-time work beyond October if desired. This is a good opportunity for someone looking to continue to learn small scale farming of a diversity of crops and growing using high-tunnels for season extension. Previous farm experience preferred but not required.

Additionally there is the opportunity for someone in either position looking for year-round work to take on expansion of the farm’s shoulder season production.

The preferred applicants will have a strong work ethic, pay attention to details, be able to work quickly and well with a team, be willing to work alone at times, and be able to work under all kinds of weather conditions including rain, cold, sun, and breezy with partial clouds. A good sense of humor is always appreciated. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (about 1 basset hound). The job includes a range of field work including transplanting, field maintenance, harvesting, washing, packing, greenhouse work, and delivery. Pay is hourly (starting pay is $11/hr), plus all of the organic produce you can eat.
