For the 2018 season, we are hiring an Assistant Grower to contribute to the management, production, and distribution at our certified organic vegetable farm located in Sherborn, MA.
Dates: April through November 1, 2018
Hours: Monday through Friday. Hours vary throughout the season from 30-50 hours per week.
Compensation: Hourly wage is based on experience. Workman’s compensation and produce from the farm offered.
Responsibilities: The Assistant Grower is involved in all aspects of production and distribution, including greenhouse work; infrastructure and irrigation management; operating tractors and equipment; field prep; planting and weeding; insect and disease control; harvesting; washing and packing; and delivery and distribution to our wholesalers. S/he is supervised by and works closely with the farm managers. The Assistant Grower will be responsible for solely managing field crew, harvests, and other managerial tasks throughout the season.
Qualifications: One to three seasons of farming experience is required. Prior experience operating tractors and an understanding of farm infrastructure, i.e. greenhouses, irrigation systems, deer fencing, is also preferred. Additionally, applicants should have a serious interest in sustainable agriculture, and certified organic standards. The ability to bring enthusiasm, initiative, and good humor to the intense working conditions of the season is essential. Also, applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, able to lift 50 lbs, and have a valid driver’s license.
