Farm Crew Bahner Farm

  • Date Posted February 05, 2018
  • Location Belmont, ME
  • Category Agriculture
  • Job type Full-Time
Company description

Be part of our family farm in beautiful midcoast Maine!

Bahner Farm is a 37-acre farm with 5 acres of fields, a sizable woodlot, and a great view. We also lease 10 acres in fields within 3 miles of the farm. Annually we cultivate about 5 acres of certified organic mixed vegetable production, with the remainder of our fields in cover crops. We have three hoophouses, field caterpillars, an 1860’s barn, a year-round wash/pack building, a farmstand, a mix of other small outbuildings and our 1840’s farmhouse. We are located on Rt. 3, only 5 miles from Belfast and the ocean. Belfast is a great town, with a co-op, library, YMCA, some great bars, coffee shops, an old-time movie theatre… and it’s within biking distance of our farm. We are also happy to be only 20 minutes from the beautiful Camden Hills State Park and an hour from Acadia National Park.

Our primary operation is mixed vegetable production for farmers markets, CSA, and farmstand. In addition, we are branching out into small fruits such as strawberries and raspberries. All of our crops are MOFGA-certified organic. We grow all of our own seedlings beginning in late February, and use our hoophouses and greenhouse for spring, fall, and winter production. We have two tractors and three small walk-behind tractors that we use for primary cultivation and tillage. Some weed control is done by hand or with hand tools when necessary. All of our transplanting is done by hand.  We have a few animals for our own enjoyment and consumption, but not for commercial production.
