We seek an individual who is energized and enthusiastic about Food Link’s mission. You must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks and solve problems. This is a new position and important to Food Link’s next stage of growth. It is an amazing opportunity to work for a hands-on, do what it takes, professional and passionate non-profit with a small staff.
This position will be critical to managing food inventory, deliveries, and increasing operational efficiencies. The Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of rescued food from donor companies to our many social service agency recipients via our amazing volunteer team.
The Logistics Coordinator position is approximately 40 hours per week and includes some regular weekends and nights. Work is performed on-site in Arlington, at locations where we collect and distribute food, and remotely. A friendly, fast learner who works well with people of all backgrounds is required. This position will work in tandem with Food Link’s Volunteer Coordinator and with the Outreach Coordinator as needed.
About Food Link
Food Link is an Arlington-based food rescue non profit that uses the power of volunteers to collect fresh food from food retailers and farms and distribute it to local agencies serving residents in need. We partner with 20 local grocery and prepared food stores to bring high-quality fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread and prepared foods to 31 social service agencies including afterschool programs, programs for at-risk youth, low income housing facilities, homeless shelters, food pantries, and senior centers.
Responsibilities:
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
Food Distribution and Food Safety:
-
Orchestrate food distribution
-
Monitor equipment and food handling to ensure food safety
-
Monitor and react to food recalls or other food safety situations
Facilities Management:
-
React to and resolve issues regarding equipment and facilities
-
Manage food inventory
-
Ensure facilities and equipment are clean and well organized
-
Maintain and schedule use of Food Link’s vehicle(s)
Support and Assist Volunteers:
-
Provide direction to volunteers on food sorting and distribution
-
Learn to be a fill-in lead volunteer
-
Schedule fill-in volunteers when needed
Collaborate with Partner Organizations:
-
Communicate / collaborate regularly with food donor and recipient agencies
-
Communicate / collaborate with other hunger relief and food rescue organizations
Day-to-Day Systems:
-
Collaborate on / create new systems, protocols and forms to increase efficiency
-
Integrate Slack into operations
-
Collaborate on training materials for food safety and distribution
-
Prepare quarterly reports of food collected and distributed
-
Collect and report data on food collected and distributed for grant applications and other reports
Administrative:
-
Scanning/Filing/Record Keeping
-
Attend weekly staff meetings
-
Attend some fundraising and outreach events
-
Maintain data collection in the Food Rescue Robot, our volunteer management & data collection system
Other:
-
Assist with and participate in events/fundraisers

Complete other roles and tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
-
Self-starter, motivated and energetic, with effective organization and time management skills.

Proven record of diving into processes, measuring effectiveness, and identifying improvement areas.

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite particularly Excel and Word

Knowledge of Google Drive and managing data there

Operations background, particularly in the food industry or food insecurity

Knowledge of food safety, Servsafe certification a plus

Good writing and communication skills

Adept at learning new software

Ability to take direction, work independently and with a team

Ability to work remotely
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, regular access to a reliable vehicle and be able to lift 40 pounds repeatedly.
