Concrete Jungle, an Atlanta-based nonprofit founded in 2009, recovers the abundance of ignored, fresh produce growing on our streets, yards and parks to meet health and nutrition needs of our homeless and food insecure population.  We do this by:

  • Mapping fruit trees
  • Educating and engaging volunteers to harvest fruit and work on our farm
  • Creating technology to monitor ripening of trees
  • Cultivating vegetables to donate on our urban farm in Southwest Atlanta
  • Gleaning from farms and orchards at the end of their season
  • Engaging local shelters and soup kitchens to make fresh, local produce more accessible
 

Since 2009, Concrete Jungle has donated 62,387 pounds of produce (249,550 servings).

Job description

In 2018, Concrete Jungle is expanding our programming within the soup kitchens and food pantries we serve to provide local produce taste tests and cooking classes at food pantries, as well as food preparation assistance with our soup kitchen partners. We are looking for a 20 hour/week Program Manager to help manage this program by:

  • Implementing curriculum for weekly taste tests and cooking classes
  • Managing relationships with our partners at soup kitchens and food pantries
  • Facilitating one event per week at soup kitchen or food pantries
  • Evaluating program efficacy through surveys and interviews
  • Working with interns and volunteers

The Program Manager would also work in the office and in the field on Concrete Jungle’s regular operations:

  • Monitoring fruiting trees
  • Leading 1 volunteer fruit pick or farm day per week
  • Communicating with volunteers via email and social media
 

Position requirements

  • Strong communications and leadership skills: comfortable speaking to and leading groups
  • Program management experience
  • Sensitivity to nature of food insecure population we serve
  • Strong organizational skills to meet program benchmarks on time
  • Self-directed approach to work
  • Flexibility to pivot programming as seasons change and needs differ between partner agencies
  • Enthusiastic personality

Experience in teaching/instruction preferred. Experience in local food and/or social services is preferred but not required.
