Position summary

 

GFMA is seeking a dynamic, detail oriented and highly organized individual to serve as our Community Initiatives AmeriCorps VISTA. The service year will be spent building capacity for the launch of Fresh Stop Markets, a fresh food access initiative that serves both farmers and low income consumers by combining elements of a traditional farmers market and pre-purchased produce shares, commonly called CSA’s. The VISTA will work to develop efficient operational systems and procedures for Fresh Stop Market preparation, execution and evaluation.

 

Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will have experience working and/or living in fresh food insecure, under resourced communities and communities of color; will display cultural competence and ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with community members. Prior experience and/or demonstrable interest in sustainable food systems, agriculture, community organizing and/or adult education strongly preferred.

• Ability to independently prioritize and organize multiple ongoing projects
• Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving; independence in utilizing available resources and information to develop effective solutions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent customer service skills and diplomacy with external stakeholders

 

Responsibilities

• Create manuals, guides, and standard operating procedure documents to aid in effective, efficient program implementation
• Develop efficient contact management system and processes for communication with various stakeholders (farmers, shareholders, market leaders, community partners)
• Assist in developing and maintaining community partner and funder relationships
• Assist in the design and execution of community outreach and training activities
• Assist with data collection and management
• Work with GFMA staff and FSM community leaders to develop shareholder recruitment plans for each FSM site
• Work with GFMA staff and FSM community leaders to coordinate and continually improve processes for market setup and produce distribution
