Job description

We are seeking a Bilingual Food Educator to work directly with the Nutrition Program Coordinator in the preparation and delivery of interactive nutrition education workshops alongside cooking demonstrations using the Stellar Farmers’ Market curriculum and recipes that feature seasonal produce from our Mott Haven Farmers’ Market. Workshops will be implemented outside at the farmers’ market and will reach a wide range of audiences (adults, seniors, parents, and youth). The bilingual food educator will be responsible for ensuring accurate and fluent Spanish translation of nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstration. This position is part-time and seasonal to coincide with the farmers’ market season (July through November). The selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-day training during the last week in June and commit to working on Mondays, 9am to 5pm (8 hours) from July 9 to November 19, 2018. Attendance to periodic team meetings at our main office will also be required.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations from English to Spanish
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of nutrition education sessions
  • Assist with the set-up and break-down of tents, tables, cooking equipment and materials
  • Assist with food preparation for cooking demonstrations, as needed
  • Assist with the implementation of social marketing activities and program promotion of farmers’ markets and other community settings
  • Promote nutrition education sessions to ensure required level of participation is achieved
  • Assist with the collection of demographic and evaluation data from workshop participants
  • Participate in trainings and meetings with other program staff
