Job description Job Objectives: 

The Wellness in the Schools (WITS) Chef is responsible for implementing school-based food and engagement efforts, as directed by Wellness in the Schools. The candidate should be flexible with the day-to-day expectations and demands of the role, a team player, and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This position reports to a WITS Program Manager. 

Qualifications: 
  • Culinary school graduate or equivalent in experience 
  • Deadline and detail focused 
  • Strong interpersonal skills (necessary for working cooperatively with school personnel, parents, and other partnering organizations) 
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work well with children and parents 

Responsibilities:

  • Train school kitchen staff on new menu items on a weekly basis
  • Lead nutrition education efforts on school campus
  • Engage with school community through various activities
  • Meet monthly with school and community partners
  • Market WITS programs (including but not limited to conducting tastings, engaging with WITS Chef Partners, attending PTA meetings, and other opportunities to bring awareness of WITS)
  • Coordinate and implement NYC-based Wellness events
  • Support evaluation of WITS programs
  • Engage with regional and national office
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Details:

  • Start date: August 2018
  • 5 days per week (5 to 6 hours per day) during 2018/2019 school year (10 months)
  • Report to WITS Program Manager
  • Compensation based on experience
  • Required to pass background check and TB test
