Company description Timpson Creek Farm is a diversified, Certified Organic, Education Farm located just outside of the city of Clayton in the North Georgia Mountains.  The farm itself is 25 acres with lots of native habitat, and the land is cultivated to grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, berries, and orchard trees. Livestock offer a very important teaching opportunity and are sustainably mixed into the system.  Native species of animals and plants are preserved throughout the landscape and conservation is a large part of the mission of the company. The natural features, the sustainable designs of gardens and livestock rotations, and the beautiful mountain views provide a balanced and holistic space for individuals of all ages to learn about food and foodways and modern innovations in land stewardship.

Job description

Project Manager

 

Here at Timpson Creek Farm we are seeking a Project Manager for the 2019 growing season.  The manager will facilitate the smooth operation of our farm, including cultivation, harvest, and production.

 

They will manage crop rotations, harvests, and distribution of the TCF produce to area chefs, stores, and a local  (CSA) Program.

 

They will develop and lead agricultural classes for school trips, workshops for local adult learners, and plan local community events to integrate the farm into the cultural landscape of the North Georgia Mountains.

 

The Project Manager must be committed to soil stewardship and restoration agriculture and willing to utilize organic practices for growing produce.  On the job training can be provided to this end, but the Project Manager should already have fundamental understanding of (1) annual and perennial crops, (2) plant cultivation and harvest practices, (3) ecological systems, and (4) basic irrigation.

 

Experience driving tractors or vehicles with manual transmissions is recommended. The goal for the Project Manager is to grow Timpson Creek Farm as it scales up in production and educational offerings.

 

The Project Manager is well organized, detail-oriented, self-sufficient, and able to take direction. Compensation and hours available will be based on level of experience. We are a strictly non-smoking farm.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Production Operations:

  • Manage weekly cultivation and harvests for wholesale, farmstand and CSA production
  • Adhere to health and safety standards for proper fruit and vegetable processing
  • Organize farm shares for CSA distribution
  • Deliver produce to restaurants and other purveyors
  • Manage crop rotation and maintenance
  • Manage Blackberry and Blueberry U-pick during fruiting season
  • Manage the  farmstand every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the growing season
  • Manage Livestock health and wellness, breeding, harvesting of byproducts, and pasture rotations
  • Manage Social Media, Blog, Website and all other forms of marketing
 

Farm Maintenance:

  • Follow soil stewardship practices employed by Timpson Creek Farm, including composting and mulching
  • Maintain crops (IE thinning, weeding, remediation) for weekly harvests and distribution
  • Manage irrigation for Gardens, Greenhouse, and High Tunnels
  • Complete seasonal maintenance activities, such as pruning, trellis building, and composting
  • Handle greenhouse propagation, seeding, and general maintenance
  • Prepare for and attend farm events such as school groups, on farm workshops, agricultural intensives, fundraisers, community outreach, and farm dinners
 

Educator:

  • Design and implement educational events on the Land
  • Lead classes and service learning activities for youth field trips, extended farm stays, and adult learners
  • Integrate curriculum for new class and field trip offerings curated to age groups and experience levels
  • Continue to reach out to new potential clients and partners to increase offerings
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to comfortably lift at least 50 lbs
  • Handles tedious tasks with precision and efficiency
  • Able to work outside for extended periods of time regardless of weather conditions or time of day
 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2 years experience managing operations on a diversified production farm
  • Basic knowledge of produce, plant biology, and environmental systems
  • Enthusiasm for mastering regenerative/organic agriculture and soil stewardship practices
