In the mid 1990s, we started a small cheese company on the farm, using raw milk from our own herd of Holsteins. We produce a variety of alpine cheeses, and now make up to 1000 lbs of cheese per week. We are a team of about 5, sharing in all the various responsibilities of the operation, from pumping raw milk into the vat through affinage through packaging, shipping, and sales. Job description We are looking for help in our creamery - cheesemaking experience is helpful, but is not a requirement. Being comfortable working both in a small team and independently while paying close attention to sanitation and cleanliness are vital skills. Cheesemaking is part art and part science with a healthy dose of manual labor. Occasional long hours and heavy lifting come with the territory. Work would include all aspects of cheese production and aging, cleaning, packaging, and shipping. Ultimately, the work is rewarding and we have a fun and collaborative work environment.
