The Hollywood Farmers’ Market is operated by SEE-LA, the largest mission-driven operator of farmers’ markets in Los Angeles. SEE-LA helps build sustainable food systems, increases access for low-income Angelinos to fresh, affordable produce, and supports small- and mid-sized California farms and local small businesses.

 

The Hollywood Farmers’ Market is the largest farmers’ market in Southern California and has been in continuous operation for 27 years. At peak season the market has upwards of 10,000 customers and nearly 200 vendors, offering the best produce, artisanal eats and people watching every Sunday morning, rain or shine. Beloved by Angelinos and a must-see destination for travelers from all over the world.
 

SEE-LA also is a statewide leader in the SNAP/EBT, WIC and Market Match benefit and incentive programs, which provide the opportunity for low-income customers to purchase the freshest fruits and vegetables available at local farmers’ markets.  SEE-LA has experienced tremendous growth in recent years through expansion of its Champions for Change/Pompea Smith Good Cooking Buena Cocina Nutrition Education program in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.    
 

The mission of SEE-LA is to build sustainable food systems and promote social and cultural activities that benefit both low-to-moderate income residents of Los Angeles while also supporting California small- and mid-sized farms and local small businesses.   
 

SEE-LA’s current fiscal year operating budget is approximately $1.7 million dollars.  SEE-LA currently has a total staff of 31 full and part-time employees and its administrative offices are located in Hollywood.  

Internship description

Title:  Event Coordinator / Social Media Intern

Type: Fall Internship (September 2018 to December 2018)

Supervisor:  Co-Manager, Hollywood Farmers’ Market

Location:  SEE-LA office & The Hollywood Farmers’ Market (Sunday only)

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a creative, entrepreneurial event coordinator / social media intern to join The Hollywood Farmers’ Market (The HFM) management team in developing and supporting programming and marketing efforts for our newly launched engagement space,  Community on Cosmo.
 

The position requires a keen eye for social media trends and best practices. Interest in developing a marketing strategy, managing and growing social media channels and overall support for Community on Cosmo.
 

This is an unpaid internship, that requires access to a smartphone and reliable transportation to the office and the farmers’ market (Sunday), both located in Hollywood. Meal Stipend provided.
 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 

SPECIAL EVENT COORDINATOR

  • Assist with the creation of vendor database
  • Assist Management team to recruit, schedule and communicate with potential vendors
  • Research and brainstorm strategies to help promote and drive attendance to the event


SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Partner with The HFM management team in creating and developing the style guide that shapes the creative direction of the Community on Cosmo Instagram & Facebook profile
  • Build and maintain our social media presence and engagement, including content creation and posting for social media channels
  • Manage a database of images, write copy, develop and manage the social media calendar, schedule posts
  • Report and monitor social media campaign effectiveness & ROI
  • Provide occasional support for email marketing using Mailchimp

 

ON SITE MARKET SUPPORT

  • Assist with set up for the event, including booths, tables, signage, and other event decor
  • Assist with selling merchandise, fielding customer questions, provide general customer service
  • Photograph and gather content for social media distribution
  • Assist with real-time content creation during events for Instagram stories

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications: Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign
  • A working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and Google Drive
  • Relevant experience running and reporting on social media campaign effectiveness
  • Experience with data analytics and filtering data in Google Sheets, Excel, etc
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Passion for photography, wellness, special events, people and food
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A self-starter that enjoys trying new things and researching best practices/new trends to grow social communities

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years or older and currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school
  • Must be eligible for school credit (and supply a letter from sponsor/administrator upon request)
  • Must be able to commit to a minimum work schedule of 16 hours per week. Including on-site at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market
  • Smartphone and access to reliable transportation required
