Black Rock Orchard is a family farm located in Lineboro, MD, Carroll County. Our main farm is in Maryland, but our driveway is in Pennsylvania. We have an original stone Mason Dixon marker in our plums. Black Rock Orchard grows a wide variety of tree fruit, berries and Spring/late Fall heirloom and specialty greenhouse tomatoes. In 2017, we harvested our first winter hardy figs in a new high tunnel. Black Rock Orchard farms approximately 100 acres of fruit. We sell all of our fruit at farmers markets in the Washington and Baltimore metro area. We support 5-7 full time employees.
FARMERS MARKET HELP (Mount Vernon triangle (DC - Sat) Westover Farmers Market (Arlington, VA - Sun), Takoma Park (Sun) Capitol Hill SE (Wed)
Arrive on time to help unload the truck, set up tarps and set up fruit display. Sell the fruit, help repack the fruit and reload the truck. This worker would be working along with one of the owners or managers.
Challenges include working outside in different types of weather, helping different kinds of customers, working very quickly and doing different tasks according to what is needed. Must be able to work in a small space. Will train to count back change in a specific way. This is required. The job is physically challenging, dirty, and can be stressful. Non smoking (or vaping) only. Help needed at the following markets/days:
- Mount Vernon Triangle Farmers Market (fifth and i nw, DC) - through Oct
- Westover Farmers Market. (N. McKinley and Washington Blvd, Arlington) - Sunday, 6:30 am-1 pm
- Takoma Park (Sun) - Carroll and Laurel Ave, Takoma Park, MD (Sun) 8:30-2:30pm
- Capitol Hill SE (Wed) 2pm-8 pm
Pay: $120 for every market.
