Café by Salon is an independently owned café opening in the heart of Beacon Hill, Boston in October 2018. We will serve locally roasted coffee and espresso from Tandem Coffee Roasters, as well as a fine selection of tea and delicious local pastries. Part of what makes us unique is that we are a cafe located inside of another independent business, Salon Design – a new gallery featuring innovative, and largely female, designers. We are thrilled to be at the nexus of coffee and design and we look forward to adding a high quality coffee option to Beacon Hill! 

Job description

Cafe by Salon is an independently owned cafe opening this fall in the heart of Beacon Hill in Boston, MA. We will serve Tandem Coffee Roasters espresso and coffee, as well as a fine selection of teas and local pastries. We seek a General Manager (GM) to lead our cafe operations. Working closely with the Owner, the GM will be responsible for the daily operations of Cafe by Salon and entrusted with the keys to the business! The GM will work the line on busy days, provide on-the-ground management of staff and cafe workflow, and be responsible for the core elements of cafe operations. It is essential that our GM has a first hand knowledge of, and passion for, coffee shop operations as well as relevant Barista experience. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to be a part of a new and growing independent business.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage cafe staff to ensure consistent product delivery, positive customer interactions, and orderly cafe workflow
  • Team schedule management
  • Serve as a cafe Barista as-needed
  • Vendor relationship management
  • Ordering and inventory management
  • Handle daily cash and credit transactions
  • Solve problems and identify opportunities for workflow improvement


Skills:

  • 2+ years Barista experience
  • 2+ years experience in a manager/supervisor position
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Superior customer service skills; able to handle a wide range of customer interactions
  • Excellent self-organization; sense of urgency and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Square, Google Drive, online ordering platforms
  • Proactive problem-solver; able to flag and solve problems to improve business operations
  • Proficiency with social media tools preferred (Instagram, Facebook)
