At Raaka, we make unroasted dark chocolate. We love sharing the bold, fruity, and tangy flavors present in unroasted cocoa beans. We make uncommonly delicious chocolate from scratch, bringing the best out of single origin cocoa through creative craft and whole food ingredients. Since 2010, we’ve been introducing people to a new taste of chocolate, offering bars with Tanzanian cocoa nibs aged in bourbon casks, steaming over simmering wine, and bars made with both classic and unusual pairings like mushrooms, smoked teas, vegetables, and spices. We purchase fine flavor cacao directly from cooperatives and farms across the world, and we make everything from bean-to-bar at our factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn. No one makes chocolate like we do, and we’re always looking to make people think deeply and differently about the chocolate they eat.

We're seeking a Holiday Market Manager to manage sales teams and retail operations at Raaka's kiosks at the Bryant Park and Columbus Circle Holiday Markets. A successful holiday market manager will work with Raaka's CEO, 2017 Holiday Market Manager, and Facilities Manager to set up and maintain systems ensuring that Holiday Market operations are smooth, customers have positive experiences at the booths, and the sales team is happy and well supported.

This is a full time, seasonal management job beginning upon hire (ideally in the second half of September) and concluding January 2, 2018.  The Bryant Park Holiday Market is open daily 10/27-1/2, and the Columbus Circle Holiday Market is open daily 11/28-12/24.

Primarily, the team at the Holiday Markets shares samples of our handmade chocolate, offers information about the company, and helps people choose holiday gifts for their loved ones. Thankfully, people tend to love both holiday markets and chocolate!
 

Primary Objectives

• The Raaka kiosks meet or exceed sales goals.
• Customer interactions with holiday market staff are informative, positive, and supportive of Raaka's core messaging.

Primary Responsibilities

• Hire, schedule, and support a holiday market sales team
• Schedule trainings for holiday market staff
• Maintain a calendar for sales shifts at both markets, and ensure that both kiosks are staffed during all hours of operation
• Ensure that all sales staff are properly informed, and that communications between the sales staff and customers are on brand
• Manage inventory & weekly deliveries of product & marketing materials from the Raaka factory
• Work with the night manager to ensure that inventory is checked nightly, and cash is deposited.
• Set up a sales bonus incentive program to reward exceptional sales performance
• Work to correct problems

Required qualifications:

• Demonstrated success with a minimum of 6 months of previous management experience, or other project work which clearly demonstrates a capacity to manage teams. Retail management experience is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to be flexible and respond to emergent issues, occasionally working off hours. *Important Note: While the Market Manager may delegate weekend market support duties to an assistant manager and will be supported by others on the Raaka team, you will be responsible for ensuring that issues arising in evenings (the booths generally close at 8pm) and on the weekends are resolved.  In return, Raaka offers flexible scheduling, allowing remote work and time off when appropriate.

• Can easily travel to the holiday markets and Raaka’s Factory in Red Hook
• Has the capacity to motivate a sales team
• Is comfortable asking for support from the Raaka team when necessary
• Is flexible
• Has a positive, "can do" attitude

Direct Reports:

• Holiday Market Sales team (12-14 people)
• Additionally, the 2018 Holiday Market Manager will meet together with the CEO and the 2017 Holiday Market Manager to build systems to ensure a successful market.  These may include a holiday Market Night Manager and/or a Delivery Driver

Support: Raaka's team will train the sales staff, with 2 days of in-depth training at on site at Raaka's factory, and will share printed materials on Raaka. Raaka’s Factory Retail Manager and CEO will be available to offer support and assist throughout the season.

Compensation:

Salary: $12,000 ($12k total paid over 3-3.5 months)

Bonus: 15% of sales growth vs. PY
