Company description Grafton Village Cheese Company produces handmade, raw milk cheeses with premium milk collected from small family farms. Our original cheddars include distinctive cheeses that have been aged for up to four years and a selection of flavored cheddars. Our Cave Aged line is made of cow, sheep and mixed milk original cheeses that are aged in our caves in Grafton.

Grafton Village Cheese is owned by the Windham Foundation.  The Windham Foundation is an operating foundation. It operates the Grafton Inn which has been open for over 200 years, the Grafton Village Cheese Company which has made award-winning artisanal cheddar for over 50 years, and the Grafton Trails and Outdoor Center. The Foundation operates these social enterprises to ensure that the region’s and the state’s rural economy remain viable. Job description

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality of Grafton Village Cheese’s products by managing a robust grading program. This includes training with the grading team as well as ensuring that all product has been graded in a timely fashion and before sale and allocated to an appropriate age category. Duties and responsibilities will also include understanding the various lab testing that is occurring on product (analytical and microbiological) and assisting in the monitoring of production areas to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness in accordance with the company food safety plan and policy. The person appointed will be expected to accurately record data and work as a liaison between production and quality to ensure consistent product.  Excellent organizational, quantitative, written and verbal skills are required for this position.  This person must be a self starter.

Job Functions

  • Oversee the grading program of all GVCC products to create a standard for each product
  • Oversee the allocation process of all products to appropriate ages
  • Ensure sanitary procedures are followed through all stages of production through observation, scheduled inspections, and unscheduled inspections
  • Assist with daily lab tests and record results on milk and cheese at various production stages.
  • Clearly communicate to and educate production team about methods and theory of sanitation and hygienic procedures.
  • Implement SQFI program directives as required
  • Assist in inventory tracking and production as needed.

Desired Experience and Education

  • Bachelors Degree (preferred, but not required)
  • Lab experience in performing tests and recording data
  • Successful track record of delivering results
  • General knowledge Cheese Making and milk receiving process
  • Good palate for identifying flavors in cheeses. Experience with tasting preferred, but not required.
