Job descriptionCommon Roots, a 10-year local non-profit, leases the Farm at South Village, an urban farm on Spear Street and Allen Road East in South Burlington VT.
We currently have a need to fill our Production Farmer Position.
The position is responsible for growing quality organic vegetables. The Common Roots farm operation helps support 5 food education and food access programs. Join our team of farmers, educators, interns and community members who make this community-based operation happen!
Common Roots leases two green houses, 3 high tunnel hoops and open fields. In addition, Common Roots operates a self-service farm stand operation which includes a wash station and walk in cooler. The and daily farm stand operation is open from May – Thanksgiving.
Position
Manage the farm operation growing quality produce using best organic practices, bio-dynamic practices preferred.
Develop the market and build the customer base of the farm stand by assuring the produce quality and freshness exceeds expectations and every farm stand member and patron receives the highest level of customer service.
Hours
This salaried position requires less hours in the winter and approximately during 60 per week during the growing season.
Salary
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Experience
This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience running a vegetable farm operation which includes the following:
- Experience in organic farming including management and maintenance of the documentation required to maintain the certification.
- Ability to operate and maintain standard farm equipment
- Experience with bio-dynamic farming practices preferred
- Strong customer service skills
- Previous supervisory experience
